For Professionals
Your patients or students may have had one or more educational or psychological evaluations, which have yielded a label or a series of scores. While we understand the role of scores and labels for obtaining school services (and can provide scores and labels to assist families who need them for this purpose) we take a different and distinctly pediatric approach in our assessments and ongoing care of children who struggle in school.

Pediatricians are always taught to consider a symptom in the context of its underlying causes as well as its impact on the child’s life. We use a common vocabulary and conceptual framework to incorporate data from different disciplines (e.g. neuroscience, psychology, psychiatry, pediatrics, education, etc.) into a truly collaborative model.

We identify specific points of breakdown and link them to academic performance, providing meaningful explanations of school problems and effective methods for remediation. In addition, we are as diligent in our search for latent strengths as we are in identifying breakdowns. Therefore, children typically leave our assessment with a sense that they are finally understood, a specific action plan, and a sense of optimism and empowerment.

We are an affiliate of the New York University School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics and a training site for NYU’s Developmental-Behavioral Pediatric Fellowship Program. Please contact us if you would like a supply of Yellin Center brochures to share with your patients or students.
