Services provided at The Yellin Center

Consultation

A consultation at The Yellin Center can be a good first-step for parents or older students who are not certain that a complete assessment is necessary but are seeking a new perspective regarding a student's learning. A consultation includes a face-to-face meeting with Dr. Yellin to discuss a student's situation; Dr. Yellin will offer guidance and recommendations for appropriate care. Dr. Yellin conducts an advance review of previous testing, school reports and other background materials where indicated. Significantly, a consultation typically does not include testing or assessment. A consultation is not a pre-requisite for assessment at The Yellin Center.

Comprehensive Neurodevelopmental Assessment

Our assessments look beyond standard labels to the specific components of learning. By understanding how students learn, we can provide strategies and support to improve academic performance, build confidence and develop success in school and in life. Although our basic approach remains the same for all students, some of the details of our assessments vary depending on the age of the student.

Advocacy and Transition Services

Advocacy and Transition Services are provided by our staff specialist, an attorney with expertise in educational law and transition issues, including post-high school options. Our Advocacy and Transition Services can help guide a family as they seek educational services from the public schools, look for non-public elementary and secondary school options, and plan for life after high school. We offer specific guidance on rights and procedures under the IDEA and Section 504 and work with families to make sure that their child's IEP meets his or her needs. Where necessary, we offer full legal representation at hearings and related proceedings. For older students, we can assist with the accommodation process for standardized testing and help plan the transition from high school to college.
