Heidi Van Horne, Psy.D.
Licensed Clinical Psychologist
|
|
Heidi Van Horne grew up in upstate NY, and trained in Boston, where she earned a Psy.D. (Doctorate of Psychology) from the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology. She also holds a B.A. from Grinnell College. Her focus has been working with children, adolescents and families, providing both assessments and treatment. She has worked at inpatient psychiatric units, residential treatment centers, day treatment programs, public schools and outpatient counseling centers.
Dr. Van Horne moved with Dr. Paul Yellin from the Student Success Program of All Kinds of Minds Institute to continue providing more dynamic interdisciplinary learning assessments. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband, an artist, and their two cats. |

Meghan Kimpton, M.S. Ed.
Learning Specialist

Meghan Kimpton moved with Dr. Yellin’s clinical team from the Student Success Program of All Kinds of Minds Institute. Prior to joining All Kinds of Minds, Meghan was an elementary classroom teacher for seven years, working with struggling learners and implementing problem solving models in her classroom. She holds a Masters Degree in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, with distinction, from the University of Michigan.
Originally from Minnesota, Meghan has lived in Michigan, Kansas, California, Rhode Island and Illinois. She now makes her home in Hoboken, New Jersey. Meghan is a gifted cellist, having started playing when she was in the third grade. She is also an avid reader, a college basketball fan and loves to travel and to explore the museums of New York City. |

Valarie Algee, M.Ed.
Learning Specialist

Valarie Algee has taught college courses about children, families and language arts at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and has conducted workshops and training for classroom teachers. A former elementary school teacher with eleven years of experience, Valarie holds a BA in English Literature from the State University of New York at Geneseo and a Masters of Education from the University of Nevada.
Valarie has served as a reading resource teacher, a literacy coach, and a writing instructor. She has published articles in peer-reviewed education journals and presented at local and national conferences on topics related to early childhood education and literacy.
Valarie moved with Dr. Yellin’s clinical team from the Student Success Program of All Kinds of Minds Institute.
Originally a New Yorker, Valarie has lived in Los Angeles, CA, and Reno, Nevada. She enjoys running and sailing. Valarie now lives in Manhattan with her husband and son, where they enjoy visiting the museums and walking their two dogs. |

Erin LeFevour, M.Ed.
Learning Specialist

Erin LeFevour recently moved to New York City and joined Dr. Yellin and his team at the Student Success Center. Erin has worked as a school psychologist for the past 4 years in Boston and San Diego. She earned her Master’s degree in Education and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study from the University of Massachusetts Boston. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Illinois.
Erin grew up in Chicago and continues to be a devoted Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. She enjoys frequently visiting her family there, especially her 3 nephews. Erin enjoys travelling, and loves to water ski and snow ski. She currently lives in Manhattan and enjoys exploring the city on bike rides. |

Sarah Eskin Drake, M.S. Ed. Learning Specialist

Sarah Eskin Drake worked for the All Kinds of Minds Institute as a Learning Specialist and an instructor in the Schools Attuned (teacher training) Program, prior to joining the Yellin Center when it opened in April, 2007.
Sarah earned her Masters Degree from Bank Street College of Education and holds her B.A. in English Literature and Creative Writing from the State University of New York in New Paltz.
Prior to joining All Kinds of Minds, Sarah was the Director of Student Services at Louisville Collegiate School for three years, where she was responsible for all middle school students’ academic support. During her six years as a classroom teacher, she taught a variety of subjects, including literature, writing workshops, social studies, life skills, and Spanish. Sarah is also a long-time volleyball and softball coach, leading teams on both the varsity and club levels.
Sarah and her husband live in New York with their two small children. |

Susan Denburg Yellin, J.D. Advocacy and Transition Services

Susan Denburg Yellin is an attorney and the founder and Executive Director of The Center for Learning Differences, a non-profit organization that provides information and connections to resources for families and professionals dealing with children who learn differently.
She graduated from Cornell University and the Boston University School of Law and has been a practicing attorney for more than 25 years. She is a member of the New York State Bar Association and its Committee on Representing Persons with Disabilities as well as the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA).
Mrs. Yellin is the mother of three sons (and wife of Dr. Paul Yellin). She first became interested in learning issues and educational advocacy as a parent dealing with her own child’s learning difficulties. Since founding The Center for Learning Differences in 2002, she has created an informational website (www.centerforlearningdifferences.org), developed a curriculum to help educate pediatric residents about learning issues, organized conferences on post high school options for students with learning differences, and shared information and insights with hundreds of parents of children who learn differently. |
