Preparing for an Appointment
Preparing for an appointment begins with reviewing the packet of forms you will be receiving from us. The packet has questionnaires for you, your child (for students age 9 and up only), and his or her school to complete and return to us. We will also want to see samples of your child’s schoolwork and reports from any previous testing. These will enable our assessment team to have a better picture of the issues that have been of concern to you.

When discussing the assessment with your child, you might want to tell your child:

You will be part of a team that looks at how you learn.
Your parents will be observing the entire process, so they will share the experience with you.
You will learn about things you do well, not just about things that are difficult for you.
You will get a chance to meet with the assessment team during the demystification process to talk about your concerns and ask questions.
Most kids really enjoy their day, often describing it as “fun”.

If your child typically takes medication on school days, he/she should do so for this assessment, in order to evaluate representative performance. If you have questions about the effectiveness of medication (e.g., stimulant), do not administer it in the morning, but be sure to bring it with you. If your child wears glasses, make sure you bring them!
