About Us: Susan Yellin, Esq.
Susan Yellin, Esq. has been a practicing New York attorney for over 25 years and has extensive experience in legal issues related to education and special education. She founded the nonprofit Center for Learning Differences, an organization which has provided information and resources to thousands of families and professionals. She also created its signature program, Life After High School, which brought together hundreds of students, parents, and counselors with representatives of colleges and post-secondary programs that offer supports for students who struggle with learning issues.
Mrs. Yellin co-authored Life After High School: A Guide for Students with Disabilities and Their Families (Jessica Kingsley Publishers, 2010), which critics have called “outstanding and highly readable,” and “an excellent guide.” As one reviewer noted, “Every parent hopes that his or her child will grow up to have a full and fulfilling life. The information and advice presented in Life After High School will be a key resource in making this happen …” In her role as Director of Advocacy and Transition Services at The Yellin Center, Mrs. Yellin works with families to obtain school services for students and to help identify appropriate school settings for individual students. In addition, she provides College Transition Consultations to students and parents regarding the college admissions process for students who struggle with learning issues. These consultations include identifying appropriate programs, working through the application process, helping students become effective self-advocates, and guiding families in providing appropriate documentation to obtain support services. Students do not need to have had an assessment at The Yellin Center assessment to have a College Transition Consultation. Mrs. Yellin is a graduate of Cornell University and the Boston University School of Law. She and Dr. Yellin are the parents of three sons, one of whom has struggled with complex learning issues. |
