The Yellin Center’s independent educational evaluation program will pinpoint the specific strengths and challenges affecting a student's learning. By deeply understanding how students learn, we can provide strategies and support to improve academic performance, increase self-confidence and develop success in school and in life. Although our approach remains the same for all students, some of the details of our assessments vary depending on the age of the student.

We take great pride in customizing our evaluation approach for each student with whom we work. Please contact us to discuss your family's specific situation.

Our comprehensive evaluation will generally include the following elements:

  • Initial consultation with Dr. Yellin
  • Advance review of background materials, including: parent, school (when requested), and student questionnaires; results of previous assessments; standardized test scores; school reports, medical history and work samples
  • Interdisciplinary, cross-battery cognitive and educational assessment
  • Psycho-educational testing (IQ and achievement batteries)
  • Medical examination, including review of neurological status
  • Hearing and vision screening
  • Screening for significant emotional difficulties that may affect learning
  • Immediate feedback and preliminary findings reported at time of assessment

Evaluations include qualitative tools as well as standardized batteries, which may include measures such as:

  • Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Fifth Edition (WISC-V)
  • Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV)
  • Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Fourth Edition — Integrated (WISC-IV Integrated)

*Please note that the specific testing measures selected for each student will be individualized; no student will be evaluated using all of the measures listed above.

A detailed written report and recommendation plan follows the evaluation, and generally includes:

  • Summaries of the medical, neurological, cognitive, and educational examinations, standardized psycho-educational scores, and qualitative findings
  • A description of the student's learning profile and how that profile is linked to academic performance
  • A strategy plan that includes specific recommendations for supporting academic improvement at home and at school based upon each student’s unique profile of strengths and challenges

Follow-up services included in the assessment program are:

  • Follow-up consultation with Dr. Yellin after receipt of report to discuss questions and how best to implement recommended strategies
  • Consultation with a teacher, tutor or educational institution to discuss findings and recommendations (when requested)
  • Advocacy support consultation (when requested)

For more details about the evaluation program, including up-to-date information about our fees and policies, please contact us.

Ongoing management and support services are available following the evaluation as needed.
