TOOLS FOR AT-HOME INSTRUCTION
DreamBox
This innovative software package adapts to your child's skill level. Using your child's answers to different kinds of problems, DreamBox detects which skills a student has mastered and which need more work, then provides instruction and practice in the form of games. Parents can use the Dashboard feature to monitor their child's progress. Be aware, however, that DreamBox cannot be configured to match the curriculum your child is encountering in school; rather, it follows the sequence of exercises that its panel of experts has determined is most beneficial to ensure that there are no gaps in your child's math skills. DreamBox is a particularly good choice for summer math enrichment.

TOOLS AND RESOURCES

EQ Editor - $4.99 for iPad
This powerful app allows high-level math students with difficulty controlling a pencil to type out and solve complex equations. Work is easy to share with instructors: students can export into PDF, PNG, MathML, TeX, HTML, and email formats or uploaded to Dropbox.
Panther Math Paper - $14.99 for iPad
With Panther Math Paper, pencil control is no longer a pre-requisite for working out equations. Students can use Panther's templates as an alternative to scratchwork, and work can be emailed easily to teachers for evaluation.
Math Slice
This page will likely be boring to students but helpful to instructors. The online games here are pretty uninspired, but the site allows parents, teachers, and tutors to create customized worksheets to practice just about any math skill you can imagine.

Create a Graph
Create a polished line, bar, pie, or xy graph with this free tool available through the National Center for Educational Statistics.
Khan Academy
We often tell our clients that the Khan Academy is like YouTube for math: Users can search through thousands of short instructional videos explaining in a clear, concise way everything from simple addition to advanced calculus. Though it was originally an instructional site for math, the Khan Academy now features videos on a variety of topics such as economics, the humanities, science, and more.
Illuminations
This outstanding collection of online activities was developed by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Parents and teachers will find invaluable resources here, but be aware that kids will probably need to walk through most activities with an adult before being able to use the site independently. This is a place to develop conceptual understanding and get some high-level practice, not to drill. Activities range from basic money counting to high-level trigonometry and calculus.
